ashtanga yoga teacher training in india

Older people and Astanga yoga
Although there are a number of notable exceptions. most Astanga practitioners are in their 20s, 30s or 40s. Astanga yoga is essentially a young person’s practice, and older people tend to find it draining rather than invigorating. If you have been practising Astanga yoga for a long time, then you may find you can continue well into later life. However, if you are in your 60s and are thinking about taking up yoga for the first time, you would probably benefit from practising a more gentle style of yoga. This is particularly true if you suffer from a musculoskeletal condition, such as osteoarthritis or osteoporosis. Shri K Pattabhi Jois  recommends that older people concentrate on yogic breathing exercises (pranayama) rather than posture practice. and that if they do practise Astanga yoga. to omit the vinyasa.
